- Bike to your interview if possible - shows you're adapting to Dutch culture
- Be ready for the salary expectation question - research on Glassdoor NL
- Salary isn't discussed in the first interview, usually 2nd or 3rd round
- Even if you don't speak Dutch, say 'Ik spreek een beetje Nederlands'
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to find a job?
Depends on your field. Tech: 1-3 months, other sectors: 3-6 months. I found mine in 2.5 months but I applied to 10-15 jobs per week.
What is the 30% ruling?
A tax benefit where 30% of your salary is tax-free for 5 years. Your employer applies for it. Requirements: came from 150km+ away, meet salary threshold.
Can I find a job with just English?
In tech and international companies, yes. Smaller local companies want Dutch.
How does probation period work?
1 month for 1-year contracts, 2 months for longer. Either party can leave without reason.
